Well...I guess we doing this
EXTRA! EXTRA! Read all about it! Monogamish Pod has this newsletter out and it’s full of hot juicy news!!!
Well…I suppose that’s one way of looking at it.
I’ve been thinking about ways to engage with faithful Monogamish Pod listeners since day 1 of this podcast. Back then, Sham and I talked about social media outreach and how to pull people in when we were entering almost into unchartered territory.
Our podcast was about Polyamory and we didn’t have any of the main features of mainstream non-monogamous or polyamorous podcasts!
We didn’t have white hosts - Nope. Sham and I are both Black.
We only centered people of colour, primarily Black folks - I can count on 1 hand, not even using all my fingers, how many white people we’ve had on the podcast.
The podcast isn’t sex-centered. - Now this is not to say I don’t talk about sex here (because I do) but that’s not the focus of the podcast.
3 years into this and I’m still thinking about engagement, especially with this TikTok and Reels thing. I’ve started doing polls on the episodes on Spotify, posting the episodes on YouTube, trying to do more events and just be out here!
Apparently, a pandemic and the podcast moving to a solo endeavour isn’t THAT big of a deal? Who am I kidding, it was HARD AS HELL and is still very difficult on some days but I love this podcast so I want to show it off.
Now that my intro spiel is all done and you are immersed in my mind, let’s talk about what’s been happening between February and April with Monogamish Pod!
Episode 03-10: The Metamour Bill of Rights dropped on February 9th and then…I kind of disappeared. I had family and friends coming to visit between January and February and had my social battery and all around capacity were just depleted. I was also trying to get documents together for a new job AND filing my taxes. I decided to skip a week of releasing an episode and it went a BIT longer than expected.
March dawned and I was like yeah! Let’s get back in the saddle! I’m ready to do this! And then…the tech issues started.
Here’s something you should absolutely know about me…i don’t have a MacBook. While I absolutely have an iPhone, an old iPad mini and an even older old iPod touch, I have never owned a Mac computer. My grandmother had one when I was a kid though, you know that pretty green one? Yeah. I haven’t used a Mac since really.
So when my 2016 Dell laptop, that has been faithfully churning out this podcast and all my projects since then, started to pretend like it wanted to go into the great beyond, I was inconsolable. We had been through so much together! Also a new laptop was ABSOLUTELY NOT IN THE BUDGET.
I could barely have recorded Zoom calls much less edit a podcast episode. I figured, maybe baby was overworked and just needed some time and space to heal. I was also putting out my Blachelorettes podcast at the same time which was weekly and so Inspie (my laptop) was not happy.
Did I mention a new laptop wasn’t (and still isn’t) in the budget? Yeah. I had to start treating Inspie with care and delete software, files, move some things to my portable hard drive.
Honestly, I don’t know how we survived this but she’s still here! Still chugging! Slower than slow at times but now I could edit and release multiple podcast episodes in a week!
I came back with a bang (or a whimper, according to the episode statistics *ouch*) and released Episode 03-11: I Guess You’re Wondering Where I’ve Been… on March 30th. That’s also the episode where I first announced the newsletter!
I’ve been doing real good with April! It’s a short month and I released a 2 part interview with Dennis Winchester, one of the few men that I’ve had on the podcast. To make Dennis even more special, he’s also straight AND not kinky at all. If you’ve listened to the podcast for any period of time you KNOW the guests I have on usually are queer and have some element of kinkiness in their lives.
I wasn’t totally absent from the podcast world during my unintentional hiatus from Feb-March.
I also put on an event, Poly After Dark with Chaneè Jackson Kendall answering questions and having discussions about polyamory. There was no recording of the event but there MIGHT be another one happening in June so stay tuned.
I’ve got some bangers coming in May! I have a conversation with Marjani Lane dropping on May 4, 2022 which primarily focuses on how she became Marjani Lane and talks about their navigation of polyamory while having personality disorders.
The next episode for May includes a conversation that was recorded in November 2021! It’s a vulnerable conversation between myself and D.A. about navigating polyamory while suffering from mental illness. That episode will be coming on May 18.
Thank you so much for subscribing to the newsletter!
Obviously it’s SUPER long because i’m trying to condense 3 months into one. The next newsletter will be much shorter.
Catch you on May 31, 2022.
